January was a rough month at our house.
On Thursday I went to pick Jack up from school and he looked like he didn't feel good. He went home and took a nap. When he woke up his temperature was 102. I took him to the walk in hours at his pediatrician's office the next morning. She diagnosed him with pneumonia and put him on Amoxicillin. Here he is getting a breathing treatment at the doctor's.
The following Tuesday I had to take Jack back to the doctor to make sure the antibiotics were working. Thankfully, they were and he was on the mend. I had her check Bella as well because she had started coughing and she had a fever. Sure enough, she had pneumonia too. She put her on Amoxicillin also.
She took it easy on the couch.
The following evening her temperature shot up to 104! I called the doctor on-call to see if I should take her to the ER. She said no, just watch her and bring her into the walk in hours in the morning. Most likely the antibiotic wasn't strong enough for her.
I took her and Teddy in because now he wasn't feeling well either. Poor Bella not only had pneumonia, but she now had a double ear infection and Pink Eye! Teddy had Pink Eye and an ear infection too. She changed Bella's antibiotic and put Teddy on an antibiotic as well. She also sent us to Children's Hospital to have a chest x-ray done on Bella to check her lungs.
They made her wear a mask while we were in the waiting room because she was coughing so much.
I couldn't go in with her to get the x-ray because I'm pregnant, but I could see her through the window. She did very well considering how sick she was.
She had to wear a hospital gown when she was there. She wasn't thrilled about it.
Here she is getting her x-ray.
The following Saturday night, Teddy was coughing and his temperature was rising so I took him to Children's Hospital. Poor guy had to get a chest x-ray too!
He had pneumonia too! They put him on another antibiotic so he was now on two antibiotics!
The next Tuesday I had to take Bella and Teddy back to the doctor for a re-check to make sure they were getting better. Teddy was getting better, but poor Bella wasn't. So she put her on another antibiotic so she was now on two antibiotics too!
To add insult to injury, she got diarrhea even after taking probiotics and eating yogurt. Her pediatrician had her give a stool sample (that was fun) and she was diagnosed with C-diff. A bacteria you get when you have been on too many antibiotics, which ironically they treat with more antibiotics! This Monday was the first day in almost a month that she didn't have to take an antibiotic!
Thankfully, everyone is better now. It was a rough month, but when I think of all the parents who have children who are seriously ill I realize how blessed I really am.
Wow woman! No wonder you haven't been posting! Miss you guys
